Corrugato si o corrugato no?/Flexible tube or not?

Sebbene qualcuno sconsigli l’uso del corrugato perché ostacolerebbe un fluido passaggio d’aria, esso diventa molto comodo nel caso in cui lo stesso snorkel venga utilizzato da diverse persone con fisionomie differenti fra loro. Il corrugato, infatti, è flessibile per cui riesce ad adattarsi ad ogni persona. Nel nostro caso, in cui l’attrezzatura viene fornita a persone di tutto il mondo, il corrugato risulta essere la scelta migliore. Le scelte, spesso, vanno fatte in base al contesto in cui ci si trova.

L’importanza della valvola di spurgo/the importance of purge valve

Rappresenta un valido aiuto per l’espulsione d’acqua. Con la valvola, infatti, l’acqua uscirà direttamente sotto il vostro mento con un respiro secco. Col classico snorkel l’espirazione dev’essere maggiore per permettere all’acqua di uscire dal buco del tubo. Va detto però che gli snorkel dotati di valvola di spurgo hanno bisogno di maggiore attenzione poiché sabbia e sassolini potrebbero entrare all’interno della valvola compromettendone l’uso. Noi abbiamo scelto per voi gli snorkel con valvola semplicemente per il fatto che la nostra gita vi porterà direttamente in mare sui siti snorkeling per cui questo problema diventa trascurabile 🙂

Boccaglio per adulto vs boccaglio per bambino/Adult snorkel vs child snorkel

Per pigrizia o per spirito d’adattamento potremmo utilizzare da adulti uno snorkel (boccaglio) da bambino e viceversa, ma perché è meglio non farlo? Ciascun tipo di snorkel è stato concepito per una clientela diversa. La bocca di un bambino è più piccola dell’adulto per cui il boccaglio dev’essere più piccolo per evitare l’ingresso d’acqua. La lunghezza del tubo dev’essere maggiore per un adulto in modo da garantirgli l’aria necessaria, più corto nel bambino in modo che il ricambio d’aria sia più veloce e quindi possa respirare più facilmente. Ecco perché è sempre meglio non dare ad un bambino 1 snorkel da adulto e viceversa.

For laziness or for the spirit of adaptation we could use a child snorkel and vice versa, but why should not we do it? Each type of snorkel has been designed for a different clientele. The mouth of a child is smaller than the adult so the mouthpiece should be smaller to prevent water ingress. The length of the tube must be greater for an adult in order to guarantee the necessary air, shorter in the child so that the air exchange is faster and therefore can breathe more easily. That’s why it’s always better not to give a child an adult snorkel and vice versa.

Come respirare dal boccaglio/How to breath with snorkel

Passiamo al boccaglio, ovvero quello che gli inglesi chiamano “snorkel”. La parola snorkeling deriva proprio dall’uso che se ne fa durante questa attività. Qualcuno alle prime armi potrebbe avere la sensazione di “fame d’aria” usandolo, ovvero la sensazione che l’aria inspirata non sia sufficiente. In realtà questa condizione è data dal fatto che si fa l’errore di respirare spesso e velocemente. Dobbiamo dare il tempo all’aria che abbiamo appena espirato di uscire fuori dal tubo per far posto ad aria nuova. Altrimenti continueremo a inspirare aria “vecchia” ricca di anidride carbonica e con minore quantità di ossigeno. Fare respiri lenti e profondi è il segreto.

Let’s talk abut the snorkel. The word snorkeling derives from its use during this activity. Some beginners may have the sensation of “hunger for air” using it, which is the feeling that the air is not enough. In reality this condition is due to the fact that the mistake is  breathing often and quickly. We need to give time to the air we just exhaled to get out of the snorkel and make  new air come in it. Otherwise we will continue to inhale “old” air rich in carbon dioxide and with less oxygen.The secret is taking slow and deep breaths.
